In line with our commitment to corporate social responsibility and supporting health and wellness initiatives, Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd. organized a blood donation program in collaboration with the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC). The event, held on May 10, 2025 aimed to contribute to the hospital’s blood bank, especially for the needs of children who require critical medical interventions such as surgeries, treatments for blood disorders, and emergency care.
The blood donation drive was designed not only to support the healthcare community but also to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and its impact on saving lives. This initiative was part of our broader goal to engage employees in activities that contribute positively to society and promote the spirit of giving.

The blood donation drive commenced at 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The event was attended by 47 employees from various departments. The Philippine Children’s Medical Center sent a medical team consisting of licensed phlebotomists, nurses, and physicians to oversee the entire process.

Each employee was given registration form upon arrival. The employees were advised to fill-out all the necessary data needed for the screening.

Each donor was assessed for eligibility through a medical screening, that include a brief medical history review, blood pressure and hemoglobin level checks, and a general health assessment. This is to ensure that the donations would be safe for both the donor and the recipient.

Eligible donors were then guided through the donation process. The blood donation itself typically took between 8 to 10 minutes, followed by 30 minutes recovery period.
The NSCR-CP02 Project recorded a total of forty-seven (47) successful Filipino blood donors out of fifty-seven (58) registered participants from different site locations including MMSP-Baliwag site with various work designations.
Ten (10) individuals were unable to donate due to not passing the preliminary health assessment. The reasons for ineligibility included:
- Recent intake of medication
- High blood pressure
- Recent surgical operation
- Ongoing anti-rabies vaccination
After donation, participants were escorted to the recovery area where they were provided with snacks and drinks. This allowed them to rest and replenish their energy before resuming their daily activities.

The blood donation program was a resounding success, with a total of 47 (450ml) of blood donated. This significant contribution is expected to help hundreds of pediatric patients at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center who are in need of blood transfusions for various medical conditions.

The blood donation program held in collaboration with the Philippine Children’s Medical Center was a great success. It was an excellent opportunity for employees to give back to the community and contribute to a meaningful cause. The event also helped raise awareness about the importance of regular blood donation and its life-saving impact, especially on children who are the most vulnerable.
We express our sincere gratitude to all the employees who participated in the program and to the team from PCMC for their expertise and support. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Philippine Children’s Medical Center and planning more initiatives that promote health, wellness, and social responsibility within our community.
